Visit Lausanne

Lausanne Surroundings

There are a lot of destinations close to Lausanne where one can spend an afternoon or even more time.

You can take a boat to Montreux or Vevey. There are other ways to get to these two marvelous cities, but I highly recommend a boat trip as you will be able to see the marvelous Alps, or some fantastic vineyards.

Vevey is one of the closest destinations. It is a wonderful small, French speaking city. Despite being small, many world renowned people lived here like Jean Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo or even Charlie Chaplin.

You will find here wine terraces, as Vevey is part of the Lavaux, famous for its wine.

Montreux is also a small town very close to Lausanne. One of its main attraction is the MOB (Montreux-Oberland-Bernois), a railway that has runs many panorama trains. Also there is a classic train that runs twice a day, and riding with an old fashioned train through the villages of Switzerland is a really unique experience.

Lavaux is a wine growing region near Lake Geneva. It lies between Lausanne and Montreux. You will also find here many castles, and an astonishing landscape.

Geneva is a perfect destination if you are looking to visit another city. Geneva is even bigger than Lausanne, and there are many museums one can find here: International Museum of the Reformation, Museum of the International Committee of the Red Cross or the Museum of Natural History.

You can go to Evian too, a small town on the eastern shore of Lake Geneva. You can reach Evian by boat.

In the winter, you can go to Leysin, a popular resort in the winter. It is also worth visiting in the summer as it has a marvelous landscape and it is not that expensive as some other Swiss destinations.
